I believe that religiosity in the South has had a large influence over its political and educational leanings. Georgia's own Cobb county, for example, is well known for its controversy of putting stickers on biology textbooks stating that evolution is a "theory not a fact." Also, Southern states are usually included in the category of "Red States."
These two things are at least in part affected by the religious leanings of the South. Ideas about the origins of the universe, marriage rights for homosexuals, and abortion rights are often religiously influenced.
Another place where we see the influence of religion in the South are in things like the Civil Rights Movement. This is very prominently seen in people like Martin Luther King, Jr., a Baptist minister. His ideas about civil rights were very religiously-motivated and many of his speeches were full of religious imagery.
So, what do you guys think about religion in the South?
Yes by the way the South is known for having many types of religion. This is because of the twentieth century there were alot of immagrants traveling from across seas. That's when the diveristy started to expand bringing Jewish and Muslim communities to the bigest and busiest cities like Miami,of course, Houston and your city right now, Atlanta.
ReplyDeleteFrom recent studies the south also has the highest church attendance than the other states around the country. Alabama, Louisiana, and South Carolina all have the highest attendance of 58% follwed by Mississippi with 57%. Goergia and North Carolina also has over 50% with 52%and 54%. So as you can see the Southern States are very devoted into their practice of religion and beliefs.
Religion was nearly inforce as only white had religion beliefs and men ruled churches but women has developed churches all over the southern region. Regligion has also had a great impact on the black communities but sadly African American hardly ever unite into a religion system.
